About Us The Florida Airports Council is the official association representing publicly-owned and -operated airports in Florida. Established in October 1969 as the Florida Airport Managers Association (FAMA), the Council was formed to unite the aviation industry in addressing challenges and advancing the future of Florida’s airport system.
Today, the Council is composed of members representing all 20 Florida commercial service airports, over 70 of the state’s publicly-owned general aviation airports, 1 Spaceport (Cecil Airport), 1 Seaplane Base (Tavares Seaplane Base), and more than 350 corporate, educational, affiliate, student chapter, and student members. FAC is the only organization in Florida dedicated exclusively to airports and solving industry-specific issues.
Our Mission The Florida Airports Council advocates for the development, improvement, and enhancement of airports and aviation in Florida. The Council is committed to the professional growth of its members and the advancement of aviation infrastructure statewide. Through educational programs, conferences, webinars, and seminars, the Council equips members with the tools to excel in their roles and prepare for future leadership opportunities.
Advocacy and Industry Promotion The Florida Airports Council plays a vital role in shaping governmental decisions at the state and federal levels. With a full-time staff in its Tallahassee office, the Council actively communicates members’ needs to the Florida Department of Transportation, Governor’s Office, and other state agencies. Each year, Council members travel to Tallahassee and Washington, D.C., to meet with legislators, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to address industry concerns.
The Council emphasizes the critical role aviation plays in Florida’s economy. Through publications and advocacy efforts, the Council highlights the importance of continually improving the state’s aviation facilities and infrastructure. These efforts ensure that elected officials, key stakeholders, and the public understand the significant contributions of aviation to Florida’s prosperity.
Networking and Professional Development The Florida Airports Council provides unparalleled opportunities for industry collaboration. The annual conference and exposition, as well as the Education & Training Summit, bring together experts from multiple disciplines to share best practices and address emerging challenges. These events, alongside the Council’s year-round training calendar, ensure members stay informed and connected.
The Council’s website serves as a hub for communication, offering access to committee information, employment opportunities, past workshop materials, and the latest updates in the aviation industry. The site also features the Airmail Newsletter, which highlights industry news, legislative updates, and member achievements.
Member Resources The Florida Airports Council publishes a comprehensive Membership Directory annually, offering a valuable networking tool for members, including students and emerging professionals. This resource provides direct access to contacts across Florida’s airports and aviation organizations, fostering connections that support professional growth and employment opportunities.
